Keith Carradine has joined Skeletons, Sony Pictures’ developing creature-horror movie starring Brie Larson. The veteran actor becomes the latest addition to an ensemble that already includes Kyle Gallner, Willa Fitzgerald, Ione Skye, John Goodman and Daithí Ó Haragáin.
JT Mollner is directing the film, while J.J. Abrams is among its producers. Carradine’s character has not been revealed, and Sony has not announced a release date.
Keith Carradine joins Skeletons in an undisclosed role
The new casting update adds another experienced dramatic performer to a project that has steadily expanded its ensemble during 2026. Carradine is known for a career spanning films such as Nashville and television series including Deadwood, Dexter, Fargo and Fear the Walking Dead.

Skeletons is based on Philip Fracassi’s Fail-Safe
The movie is adapted from “Fail-Safe,” a short story by Philip Fracassi. It originally appeared in his horror collection Behold the Void and was later included in The Best Horror of the Year Volume Ten.
An authorized version can also be read through Nightmare Magazine’s publication of “Fail-Safe”. Readers hoping to enter the movie without knowing its major discoveries may prefer to wait, because the original story reveals much more than Sony’s brief film synopsis.
Fracassi confirmed on his official website that Brie Larson would star, J.J. Abrams would produce, Brian Duffield had written the screenplay and JT Mollner would direct.

Sony Pictures secured worldwide distribution rights to the movie during the 2026 European Film Market. The project is being made through FilmNation Entertainment’s Infrared label with Bad Robot Productions and Assemble Media.
According to FilmNation’s project update, Drew Simon, J.J. Abrams, Jon Cohen and Jack Heller are producing. The executive producers include Caitlin de Lisser-Ellen, Brian Duffield, Roy Lee, Steven Schneider, Brie Larson and Philip Fracassi. Infrared is financing the film.
Trade reports placed the value of Sony’s worldwide distribution agreement above $25 million. That number should not be described as the production budget. Acquisition and distribution deals can include several financial elements and do not necessarily reveal how much will be spent making the movie.
Does Skeletons have a release date?
No official release date has been announced.
Some unofficial listings and entertainment reports have suggested that Skeletons could arrive in 2027. Sony has not confirmed that timing, so it should not yet be presented as the film’s release year.
The studio has also not released a public trailer, poster or complete character guide. Those materials will provide a clearer indication of how Sony plans to position the film, including whether it will be marketed primarily as supernatural horror, psychological horror or a traditional creature feature.
