Warner Bros. Discovery added the Lionsgate film to HBO Max on July 10, 2026. Three days later, streaming-chart tracker FlixPatrol listed it as the No. 1 movie on the platform in the U.S.

The ranking gives the 2025 dystopian thriller a new opportunity to reach viewers who missed its theatrical and digital releases. However, it should be treated as a snapshot of current popularity rather than a confirmed audience total.

Warner Bros. Discovery confirmed the July 10 arrival of The Long Walk in its official list of new HBO Max programming for July 2026.

The Long Walk has a particularly important place in King’s career. His official website identifies it as a Richard Bachman novel released in 1979, while Lionsgate describes it as King’s first-written novel.

The original book follows 100 boys who must maintain a pace of four miles per hour. The movie changes the field to 50 participants and uses a lower minimum speed. This difference explains why descriptions of the novel and film do not always present the same numbers.

The central idea remains the same: a seemingly simple walking contest becomes a system of public punishment in which companionship and individual ambition are placed in direct conflict.

The novel was 46 years old when the film reached theaters in 2025 and 47 years old at the time of the HBO Max release. References to a “47-year-old” property therefore describe King’s source material, not the age of the movie.
