Marvel Rivals is taking its Path to Doomsday crossover into Avengers: Infinity War territory with a new competitive mode built around two-player teams, Infinity Stones and battles on Wakanda.
Marvel Games and NetEase Games have confirmed that the Marvel Rivals Infinity War PvP mode will arrive when Season 10.5 launches on October 9, 2026. A new gameplay trailer shows how the mode moves away from the game's standard team structure and creates a smaller, tournament-like contest between duos.
The announcement also confirms that this is only the next step in the larger Path to Doomsday event. An Avengers: Endgame-inspired experience will follow later in October.
Marvel Rivals Infinity War PvP mode launches October 9
Path to Doomsday – Avengers: Infinity War is described as a fast-paced 2v2 PvP mode. Twelve players enter a match and are divided into six teams of two.
Instead of one continuous six-versus-six battle, each duo faces another team in short deathmatches on the fields of Wakanda. The format is designed around repeated encounters, adaptation and gradually building a stronger character as the match continues.
Players choose from a pool of 13 heroes who appeared in Avengers: Infinity War. NetEase has also built random drafting into the mode, preventing every match from following exactly the same team composition or strategy.
The October 9 release date is important because it replaces older roadmap expectations. Earlier Path to Doomsday plans associated the Infinity War phase with an earlier point in 2026, but the current Season 10.5 announcement now establishes October 9 as the confirmed launch.
Infinity Stones change how each match develops
The biggest new mechanic is the introduction of the Infinity Stones as functional PvP abilities.
At the beginning of a match, every two-player team is randomly assigned one Infinity Stone. Each Stone provides its duo with a powerful ability that can influence a fight when used at the right moment.
The system becomes more important as teams are eliminated. When a duo knocks another team out of the competition, the surviving players can claim the defeated team's Infinity Stone.
That creates a natural escalation as the match progresses. A team that survives long enough can enter later rounds with access to more than one Stone, potentially giving the final battles a very different balance from the opening encounters.
NetEase has not presented the system simply as a cosmetic reference to the movie. The Stones are part of the mode's core rules, making the central objects from Infinity War directly relevant to how players approach each confrontation.
Random upgrade cards add another layer of strategy
Infinity Stones are not the only variable. Between rounds, players can choose cards from a random selection to improve abilities and character statistics.
That means a hero's effectiveness can change during a single match. Players may need to adjust their build according to the cards offered to them rather than relying entirely on the same setup every time.
The combination of randomized upgrades, changing opponents and collectible Infinity Stones gives the mode a more experimental structure than standard Marvel Rivals matches. Winning individual fights matters, but players also have to think about how their build will perform in later rounds.
NetEase says the system is intended to produce different hero builds from one match to the next. The trailer reinforces that approach by focusing on rapid battles and increasingly powerful combinations rather than a traditional objective-based match.
Why Wakanda is the setting
The mode uses the fields of Wakanda as its battlefield, directly connecting the event to one of the major locations from Marvel Studios' Avengers: Infinity War.
In the 2018 movie, Wakanda becomes the site of a large confrontation involving the Avengers and their allies as Thanos' forces attack. The new Marvel Rivals mode does not attempt to recreate that battle scene by scene. Instead, it uses the location and Infinity Stones as the foundation for a competitive multiplayer format.
That distinction is important. Path to Doomsday has increasingly used Marvel Cinematic Universe films as inspiration for new gameplay ideas rather than simply adding movie-themed cosmetics.
Path to Doomsday continues with Avengers: Endgame
The Infinity War mode will not be the final Avengers-themed addition planned for October.
Marvel Games and NetEase Games have confirmed that Path to Doomsday – Avengers: Endgame will arrive on October 22. That mode changes direction again, replacing small competitive battles with a large-scale cooperative PvE experience.
According to the official announcement, 50 players will assemble in the ruins of the Avengers Compound and fight Thanos and his army. It is a dramatically larger player count than the 12-player Infinity War mode and shows how broadly NetEase is experimenting with the basic Marvel Rivals format.
Season 10.5 will also expand the 18-versus-18 Annihilation mode with Alchemax Headquarters and introduce Halloween-related events and cosmetics during October.
What the new trailer tells us
The latest trailer makes the structure of the Infinity War event much clearer than the original Path to Doomsday roadmap did. This is not simply another themed map or costume release. It is a separate PvP format with its own team size, progression system and match-changing power mechanic.
For players, the most significant question will be how well the Infinity Stones and randomized upgrade cards remain balanced once multiple teams begin collecting additional powers. The design intentionally allows surviving duos to become stronger, so the final rounds could play very differently from the opening fights.
More details may arrive when Season 10.5 goes live, particularly around the complete hero pool, individual Stone effects and event rewards. Those details should be treated as unconfirmed unless they are formally announced by NetEase Games or Marvel Games.
What happens next
Marvel Rivals Season 10.5 launches October 9, 2026, with Path to Doomsday – Avengers: Infinity War as one of its headline additions. The Endgame phase follows on October 22 with the planned 50-player battle against Thanos and his forces.
The official Season 10.5 Dev Vision provides the broader roadmap for the update, while the new trailer offers the clearest look yet at the Infinity War mode in action.
With Path to Doomsday now moving from small 2v2 fights to a 50-player cooperative battle in the same month, NetEase is using the Avengers crossover to test very different ways to play Marvel Rivals. Which format sounds more interesting to you: the Infinity Stone-powered 2v2 competition or the upcoming 50-player battle against Thanos?
