Arrivals: A New Manifest Mystery Ordered at Netflix

Netflix is returning to the world of Manifest, but the next chapter will begin with a different plane, a different group of people and a new mystery.

The streamer officially ordered Arrivals: A New Manifest Mystery on August 28, 2026. The new sci-fi drama is set in the same universe as Manifest and brings original creator Jeff Rake back alongside longtime collaborators Margaret Easley and Laura Putney.

Several important details are still being kept under wraps. Netflix has not announced the actors who will lead the series, and no official release date has been announced.

Arrivals: A New Manifest Mystery Is Official at Netflix

Arrivals: A New Manifest Mystery has received a series order from Netflix rather than simply being announced as a project in early development. That means the streamer has formally committed to bringing the new chapter of the Manifest universe to television.

The announcement arrived on August 28, a date with obvious significance for longtime viewers. Flight 828 was at the center of the original series, making 8/28 an established reference point for the franchise.

Netflix previously used the same date in 2021 when it announced that it would revive Manifest after NBC canceled the drama following its third season.

What Is Arrivals: A New Manifest Mystery About?

The new series returns to one of the ideas that made Manifest distinctive: an ordinary flight becoming the center of an extraordinary mystery.

This time, however, the plane does not simply disappear and return years later. The story begins when a mysterious aircraft crash-lands in Denver. The passengers survive, but they cannot remember their identities, where they came from or why they have arrived.

A young social worker and an inexperienced Homeland Security agent become involved with the passengers as they search for answers. Their investigation eventually develops into something much larger, with the group attempting to prevent a catastrophe capable of threatening humanity.

The mystery also becomes personal. The people investigating the arrivals discover that they may be connected to the same puzzle they are trying to understand.

That setup gives the new series a familiar Manifest foundation while avoiding a simple recreation of Flight 828.

Has the Arrivals Cast Been Announced?

No actors have been officially announced for Arrivals: A New Manifest Mystery.

Netflix has confirmed that the show will introduce a new group of characters, but it has not revealed who will play the passengers, the social worker, the Homeland Security agent or the other major roles.

There is also no confirmation that Josh Dallas, Melissa Roxburgh or any other member of the original Manifest cast will return.

Dallas and Roxburgh were included in Netflix's announcement coverage because they discussed their experiences making the original series. Their participation in those interviews should not be interpreted as casting confirmation for Arrivals.

Until Netflix or Warner Bros. Television announces otherwise, appearances by Ben Stone, Michaela Stone or other familiar characters remain unconfirmed.

Jeff Rake and the Manifest Creative Team Are Returning

The strongest connection between the two shows is behind the camera.

Manifest creator Jeff Rake is returning for Arrivals. Margaret Easley and Laura Putney, who previously worked as co-executive producers on the original series, are joining him as co-creators and co-showrunners.

The three are also serving as writers and executive producers, giving the new series significant creative continuity with its predecessor.

Additional executive producers include Robert Zemeckis and Jack Rapke of Compari Entertainment, Len Goldstein of Tall Baby Productions and Jacqueline Levine. Warner Bros. Television, which produced Manifest, is also the studio behind the new series.

Keeping much of the original creative leadership in place should help Arrivals remain connected to the themes and storytelling style of the earlier show without requiring the new story to follow the same characters.

When Will Arrivals Be Released on Netflix?

No official release date has been announced.

Netflix has confirmed that the series is coming to the platform, but it has not provided a premiere day or a firm release window.

A confirmed filming schedule and episode count have also not been publicly announced. Because the series order has only just been revealed, any specific premiere year circulating without an official Netflix announcement should be treated as speculation.

The next meaningful updates are likely to involve casting, production plans and eventually a first-look image or trailer.

How Is Arrivals Different From Manifest?

The original Manifest followed Montego Air Flight 828 after the aircraft landed more than five years after taking off, even though no meaningful time had passed for the people on board.

Those passengers returned to families and communities that had assumed they were dead. They also began experiencing mysterious visions and messages known as Callings, gradually uncovering a much larger supernatural mystery.

Arrivals begins from a different problem. Its passengers are present, but their identities and origins are missing from their memories. The setting also moves away from the New York-centered story of the original series to Denver.

The result appears designed to let new viewers enter the franchise without first completing all four seasons of Manifest. At the same time, Jeff Rake has said the team wants the new story to remain rewarding for longtime viewers.

Why Netflix Is Returning to the Manifest Universe

Manifest has an unusual history. It originally aired for three seasons on NBC before being canceled in 2021. After the series became a major streaming performer on Netflix, the platform revived it for a 20-episode fourth and final season.

The final episodes arrived in 2023 and completed the central Flight 828 storyline.

Netflix says all four seasons have accumulated more than 130 million views since early 2023. The fourth season also spent nine weeks in Netflix's Global Top 10 for English-language television and reached the No. 1 position in more than 90 countries tracked by the company.

Those numbers help explain why Netflix sees room for another story in the same fictional world even after the original series received a proper ending.

What Happens Next?

The series order answers the biggest question: the Manifest universe is officially continuing.

The major unanswered questions now concern the cast, production schedule and release date. It also remains unknown how directly Arrivals will connect its central mystery to Flight 828 or whether characters from the original series will eventually appear.

For now, the confirmed direction is clear. Arrivals: A New Manifest Mystery will introduce a new plane mystery, new characters and a new setting while keeping the creative team that helped build Manifest.

Would you rather see Arrivals remain completely focused on its new characters, or should familiar faces from Manifest eventually return?
