The The Lords’ Day Netflix cast has expanded with five new actors joining Damson Idris in the upcoming British political thriller. Netflix has confirmed Harry Lawtey, Arsema Thomas, Sophie Willan, Gemma Whelan and Timothy Spall as members of the ensemble.
Idris leads the six-episode series as Harry Jones, a British spy caught inside the Palace of Westminster during a hostage siege. The newly announced actors’ characters have not been revealed. No official release date has been announced.

What is The Lords’ Day about?
The Lords’ Day begins during the State Opening of Parliament. Harry Jones is inside the Palace of Westminster when the building is locked down and the British government is taken hostage.
Jones has the training needed to respond, but his past creates another problem: he is an ex-spy who has been convicted of treason. As the siege grows more dangerous, he must decide whether he can save the same establishment that considers him a traitor.
The premise combines a political conspiracy with the contained tension of a survival thriller. Placing the crisis inside Parliament also gives the story an immediate question of trust. The people making decisions about the country are trapped together while the identity and motives of the threat remain uncertain.
Damson Idris leads and executive produces
Idris will not only play Harry Jones but also serve as an executive producer. The role continues his work in large-scale action and drama following Snowfall, Netflix’s Outside the Wire and F1.
Harry Jones is the only character Netflix has officially matched to an actor. The description of Jones as both a trained operative and a convicted traitor gives Idris a central dramatic conflict beyond the physical danger of the siege.
Instead of presenting him as an unquestioned hero, the series places a damaged relationship between Jones and the British state at the center of the story. His ability to help may not guarantee that the government officials around him are prepared to trust him.
The creative team behind the Netflix thriller
Jonathan Brackley and Sam Vincent are the lead writers and executive producers. The pair previously worked together on Spooks, Humans and Better, giving the project a creative team experienced with intelligence stories, technology-driven drama and institutional conflict.
Ben Chanan will direct and executive produce. His credits include The Capture and The Missing, both of which explored investigations in which evidence, institutions and individual loyalties could not always be trusted.
Jane Tranter and Dan McCulloch are executive producers for Bad Wolf, the production company behind series including His Dark Materials and Industry. According to Bad Wolf’s original announcement, the series consists of six episodes.
Based on the novel by House of Cards author Michael Dobbs
The series adapts The Lords’ Day by Michael Dobbs. Dobbs is also the author of the novel that became House of Cards, first as a British television drama and later as an American adaptation.
His involvement gives the new project a direct connection to another story about power, ambition and political survival. However, Netflix has not explained how closely Brackley and Vincent’s scripts will follow the book or which elements may have been changed for television.
The confirmed synopsis retains the novel’s central location, the State Opening and the siege inside Parliament. More detailed comparisons will have to wait until Netflix releases character information, footage or full episode descriptions.
Production and release-date information
Bad Wolf announced in March 2026 that production was expected to begin in the United Kingdom in early 2026. Netflix’s later casting update did not provide a filming timetable or confirm whether principal photography had been completed.
The July announcement also arrived without a trailer, in-character photographs or an official premiere window. No official release date has been announced.
Release-year claims circulating outside Netflix should therefore be treated as unconfirmed. A date will become reliable only when it is published by Netflix, Bad Wolf or another authorized distributor.
