Bob Odenkirk’s small-town action thriller Normal has secured an official HBO Max release date. The movie will join the streaming service’s United States catalog on August 14, 2026.
Warner Bros. Discovery confirmed the date while announcing its August programming lineup. The news gives the film a subscription-streaming destination four months after Magnolia Pictures opened it in U.S. theaters.

Derek Kolstad wrote the screenplay from a story created by Kolstad and Odenkirk. Kolstad is best known for creating John Wick and writing the first films in that franchise. He also wrote the screenplay for Odenkirk’s 2021 action movie Nobody.

However, Normal gives that formula a different setting and dramatic setup. Ulysses is an active lawman arriving in an unfamiliar community, not a seemingly ordinary suburban father revealing a hidden past. The town-wide mystery also gives the film an ensemble structure in which nearly every encounter could expose another part of the conspiracy.
Wheatley’s involvement is another important distinction. His work often mixes genre conventions with uncomfortable humor, chaotic confrontations, and characters whose plans quickly fall apart. That background fits a story built around a botched robbery and a town that becomes more dangerous as its secrets emerge.
