A Big Surprise for Laurie
When Jamie first said yes to the 2018 Halloween movie, she thought it was just one single film. She was excited to play Laurie again after many years. The movie was a big hit and made a lot of money. It brought new fans and helped her career a lot.
But during the work on editing and sounds for that first movie, the director David Gordon Green told her something unexpected. He said, “You know it’s a trilogy.” That means three movies in total! Jamie was shocked. She said something like, “Uh, no, I didn’t know that.
Why Three Movies Felt Hard
Jamie explained that Blumhouse makes movies with smaller budgets. She joked that the boss, Jason Blum, is very careful with money. She said the way they keep costs low is by not paying actors huge salaries upfront. Instead, people get a share if the movie does well. She called this the “Blumhouse model.”
Because of that style, Jamie thinks she would have said no if they told her from the start: “Hey, sign up for three scary movies.” She felt it was a big commitment.
Turning It Into Something Good
Even though she was surprised, Jamie did not stay upset. She went to Jason Blum and talked to him. She asked for a special deal where Blumhouse would pay her a little money to help develop new story ideas. She got a “first look” deal and even a producer credit. Jamie called it kind of a fun “vanity deal,” but it was smart. Since she still owed them two more Halloween films, Jason agreed!
How the Three Movies Went
Here is what happened with the three films:
- Halloween (2018) → Very successful, earned around $255 million.
- Halloween Kills (2021) → Made about $133 million, but people had mixed feelings.
- Halloween Ends (2022) → Earned around $104 million and finished Laurie’s story. Many fans had different opinions about the ending.
After the third movie, Jamie feels her time as Laurie is really over. She is thankful to Jason Blum for bringing Halloween back and giving her this adventure.
What We Learn From Jamie’s Story
It shows that even big stars can get surprises on movie projects. Plans can change, and sometimes you have to talk things out to make the best of it. Jamie used the surprise to create new opportunities for herself. That is pretty cool!
