Tim Burton and Margot Robbie Revive a Sci Fi Cult Favorite With Award Winning Writers Attached

Tim Burton’s long discussed remake of Attack of the Fifty Foot Woman has taken a significant step forward, with two of the most talked about writers of 2025 officially joining the project. The sci fi revival, which will star Margot Robbie, continues to gain momentum as it reshapes a cult classic for a modern audience.

The screenplay will now be handled by Maggie Kang Jimenez and Chris McMechan, the creative duo behind the animated phenomenon KPop Demon Hunters. Their involvement signals a bold tonal shift that blends spectacle, humor, and cultural relevance.

A New Creative Vision For A Vintage Sci Fi Story

Originally released in 1958, Attack of the Fifty Foot Woman centered on a wealthy heiress whose life takes a surreal turn after she grows to enormous size. What follows is a tale of betrayal, revenge, and social satire, as she confronts her unfaithful husband and his opportunistic lover.

The remake has been in development since 2024, with an earlier version of the script written by Gone Girl author Gillian Flynn. Burton’s version is expected to lean further into stylized fantasy and dark humor, aligning naturally with the director’s distinctive visual identity.

Writers Embrace Empowerment And Absurdity

In a statement shared with The Hollywood Reporter, Jimenez and McMechan expressed their enthusiasm for the project, describing the story as both empowering and wildly entertaining. They highlighted the appeal of a giant woman reclaiming her agency after betrayal, noting how the exaggerated premise still resonates emotionally.

According to the writers, the concept elevates themes of infidelity and self worth into something cathartic and universal, wrapped in an outsized sci fi spectacle that feels timely rather than retro.

The Success That Made Them Hollywood’s Hottest Writers

The pair rose to global prominence with KPop Demon Hunters, a Sony Pictures Animation production released on Netflix. The film became the platform’s most streamed title of all time and achieved unexpected crossover success through its chart topping soundtrack.

The animated hit earned widespread acclaim, including multiple Golden Globe nominations, double digit Annie Award recognition, several Grammy nods, and wins at the Critics Choice Awards. It was also named Time magazine’s Breakthrough of the Year for 2025, cementing Jimenez and McMechan as creative forces to watch.

A High Profile Team Behind The Camera

Burton will direct and produce the remake, working alongside producers Andrew Mittman, Tommy Harper, and Robbie’s LuckyChap Entertainment. Executive producer Kai Dolbashian and LuckyChap’s Morgan Begg are also overseeing the project’s development.

While no release date has been announced yet, the attachment of high profile talent both in front of and behind the camera suggests the project is accelerating toward production.

With Margot Robbie leading the cast and Tim Burton shaping the world, Attack of the Fifty Foot Woman appears poised to transform a campy sci fi relic into a visually bold and culturally resonant reimagining.
