The Wrecking Crew Writer Teases Possible Sequel After Jason Momoa and Dave Bautista Streaming Success

Jason Momoa and Dave Bautista’s brutal action thriller The Wrecking Crew may not be finished yet. Following its strong debut on Prime Video, the film’s writer has shared a cautiously optimistic update about the future of the franchise.

Directed by Angel Manuel Soto, The Wrecking Crew pairs Momoa and Bautista as estranged half brothers forced back into each other’s lives after their father’s mysterious death. What begins as a tense reunion quickly spirals into a violent conspiracy filled with dark humor and high stakes action. Audiences responded enthusiastically, pushing the film to hit status and earning it an impressive Rotten Tomatoes score.

Streaming Success Sparks Sequel Conversations

In a recent interview, screenwriter Jonathan Tropper revealed that conversations about a sequel have already taken place behind the scenes. According to Tropper, both he and Jason Momoa have discussed ideas for continuing the story, and while Dave Bautista’s packed schedule has slowed things down, interest remains high.

Tropper explained that the creative challenge lies in raising the stakes now that the brothers have already resolved much of their initial conflict. Any follow up would need to push them into a more dangerous and emotionally complex situation, testing the fragile bond they have rebuilt.

He also hinted that Amazon is paying close attention to the film’s performance, suggesting that sustained streaming numbers could easily greenlight a second installment.

A Franchise Built on Volatile Brotherhood

One of The Wrecking Crew’s biggest strengths is the volatile chemistry between Momoa and Bautista. Their characters clash physically and emotionally, creating a dynamic that feels both explosive and surprisingly grounded. Tropper has suggested that a sequel would deliberately strain that relationship, forcing old wounds to resurface under extreme pressure.

This approach would allow the story to evolve beyond simple escalation, leaning into character driven tension rather than relying solely on bigger action set pieces.

Busy Stars But Strong Momentum

Scheduling remains the biggest hurdle. Momoa has several major projects on the horizon, including Dune Part Three, Fast 11, and Minecraft 2. Bautista is even more booked, with Road House 2, the Highlander reboot, and numerous other projects reportedly in development.

Despite this, Tropper remains optimistic. With The Wrecking Crew only recently released, there is still time for momentum to build and for schedules to align.

The Future Looks Promising

While no sequel has been officially announced, the combination of strong audience reception, franchise potential, and studio interest makes a continuation feel increasingly likely. If Amazon decides to expand The Wrecking Crew into a full action series, it could become a reliable streaming franchise driven by star power and sharp character work.

For now, fans can enjoy the chaos of the first film while keeping an eye out for further updates.

The Wrecking Crew is streaming now on Prime Video.
