Netflix’s Kennedy Drama Expands Cast as Michael Fassbender Leads Ambitious Series

Netflix is moving full steam ahead on its upcoming historical drama Kennedy, revealing a wave of new cast members joining Michael Fassbender in the sweeping series centered on America’s most famous political dynasty.

First announced in fall 2025, the eight episode drama aims to peel back the mythology surrounding the Kennedy name and explore the personal ambitions, rivalries, romances, and tragedies that shaped the family long before they reached the White House.

A Dynasty Begins in the 1930s

Kennedy opens in the 1930s, charting the unlikely rise of Joseph P. Kennedy Sr. and Rose Kennedy as they navigate wealth, power, and social ambition while raising nine children destined for history. At the heart of the first season is the family’s internal struggle, particularly the tension between eldest son Joe Jr. and his younger brother Jack, whose rebellious nature pushes him to step out of his brother’s long shadow.

The series is expected to follow a generational structure similar to The Crown, with future seasons potentially advancing through later decades and pivotal moments in American history.

Michael Fassbender Anchors the Cast

Two time Academy Award nominee Michael Fassbender will portray Joe Kennedy Sr., the formidable patriarch whose influence shaped his children’s futures. The role marks another prestige television turn for Fassbender, who continues to expand his presence on streaming platforms.

Inspired in part by historian Fredrik Logevall’s acclaimed book JFK Coming of Age in the American Century 1917–1956, the series focuses on the formative years of the family, long before political power became their defining trait.
