Warrior Nun Creator Simon Barry Returns With New Original Detective Series 'Time of Death

Warrior Nun creator Simon Barry is officially returning with a brand-new original TV project, shifting away from adaptations and diving back into original storytelling. After the success of Warrior Nun and his work on Netflix’s Bet, Barry is now developing Time of Death, a fresh crime drama with an intriguing and high-stakes premise.

Barry Explores New Territory With Time of Death

According to recent reports, Time of Death follows a British detective who relocates to Vancouver after spending ten years tracking a serial killer. Once in the city, he discovers that his long-time adversary may also have resurfaced there. While taking on new cases, he quietly continues his relentless pursuit of the elusive murderer who defined the past decade of his life.

The project is being developed under a scripted production partnership between Barry’s company, Reality Distortion Field (RDF), and Omnifilm. RDF maintains creative control over the series, while Omnifilm handles production and financing. Their collaboration also includes My Homicide, a detective series in which an investigator teams up with an AI version of himself to solve crimes.

A Major Step Forward After Warrior Nun

Although Warrior Nun season 3 never materialized, the series’ characters, mythology, and fan base remain central to Barry’s reputation. Since then, he has focused on Bet, a live-action adaptation of the manga Kakegurui, which has already been renewed for season 2 on Netflix.

Time of Death represents Barry’s first fully original TV project since the 2017 crime drama Bad Blood, marking a significant milestone in his career. While details about casting, production timelines, and release dates remain unclear, the premise suggests a darker, more grounded mystery drama with strong emotional stakes.

Why Time of Death Could Become Barry’s Next Hit

With its blend of psychological tension, personal obsession, and slow-burn detective storytelling, Time of Death has the potential to appeal to fans of both crime thrillers and character-driven dramas. The shift from supernatural action to grounded mystery shows Barry’s range as a creator and sets the stage for a new era of original work under the RDF–Omnifilm partnership.

As more details emerge, Time of Death may very well become Barry’s next major success.
